Amitabha Pande is graduate in English literature from St. Stephens College, University of Delhi. He joined Indian Administrative Services in 1970s and came as Joint Secretary in Department of Science and Technology in year 2000. His passion towards survey and maps have contributed a lot to initiate policy reforms and brought user focus. He has been instrumental in creating awareness about maps and development of National Spatial Data Infrastructure in India.

Finding the Mainstream
Michael F Goodchild is Professor of Geography at the University of California, Santa Barbara; Chair of the Executive Committee, National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA); Associate Director of the Alexandria Digital Library Project; and Director of NCGIA’s Center for Spatially Integrated Social Science. He received his BA degree from Cambridge University in Physics in 1965 and his PhD in Geography from McMaster University in 1969. After 19 years at the University of Western Ontario, including three years as Chair, he moved to Santa Barbara in 1988. He was Director of NCGIA from 1991 to 1997. He was elected member of the National Academy of Sciences and Foreign Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2002. He has received honorary Doctorate from Laval University (1999) and Keele University (2001).

P Nag is M.Sc. (Gold Medallist) and Ph.D from Banaras Hindu University. He was the Chairman of the Commission on Popuilation Cartography of the International Cartographic Association (ICA) for the period 1987-91. He was the first Indian to become chairman of an ICA body and was also
Full Member of the Commission on Population Geography of the International Geographical Union (IGU) for two terms. He has been closely associated with the international activities related to geography and cartography, such as a Member of the International Working Group on the Thematic Maps of the world, and a Member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of the Geographical Information Systems. He has been a Senior Visiting Member of the Staff of the School of Oriental African Studies, University of London.

g-Readiness of India: Industry Perspective
He is Mechanical Engineer and MBA and started his career as first generation entrepreneur after completing his education in 1970. Currently, he is the CMD of Rolta India. A veteran in the Software Industry, Mr Singh started his career in the steel industry. In 1982 he decided to switch to the industry, which showed tremendous growth opportunities at the time. He pioneered the CAD/ CAM/ GIS solutions.

g-Readiness of India with reference to Education Infrastructure
Karl Harmsen is the Director of CSSTEAP Before joining CSSTEAP, he was Rector Dean of the
International Institute for Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation (ITC), The Netherlands,
where he also holds a Chair in Environmental Systems Analysis. Prof. Harmsen hails from the Netherlands
and graduated from Wageningen University. He specialized in soil physical chemistry and his PhD thesis
was on the behaviour of heavy metals in soil.
