Training Programme on GPS
27 - 28 January, 2003

Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite navigation and timing system developed for global use. It has become popular due to its ease of use and accuracy in positioning and timing. It has become an excellent source for data capture for GIS. The aim of this programme is to present the power of this tool through theoretical and practical aspects of GPS which will enable trainees to maximise it use for their applications.

  • Basics of Positioning System
  • Basics of NAVSTAR GPS
  • Observable, Errors, Limitations and Surveying Methods
  • Types and Applications of GPS
  • DGPS
  • GPS in Timing
  • Recent advances in Mapping Technology
  • Data collection in the field
  • Downloading the data and preparation for data processing
  • GPS Data processing
  • Importing Data into GIS software
  • Displaying the results and conclusion
  • GPS case studies
