Training Programme on Mobile Mapping
27 - 28 January 2003

Mobile Mapping System is an emerging technology and is one of the strongest in the field of mapping sciences. Mobile computing comprises the integration of three emerging technologies – lightweight hardware like Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) Laptops, Global Positioning System (GPS) and with or without wireless communication. It has a great potential for providing a diversity of services and products to the mapping community. Mobile mapping experts are using GPS to collect and merge positional data with attribute features for a GIS (Geographic Information System). This training programme

Course Content
The module for the course is designed to ensure that the participants acquire the basic skills in GIS, GPS and Mobile Mapping. These technologies will enable them to use the present and latest technologies in the field of mapping and its interpretation. The modules provided will be:
  • Introduction to Spatial Technologies
  • Introduction to Mobile Mapping
  • Introduction to PDA and software
  • Hands on training on PDA with software
  • Fieldwork for collecting data on PDA and GPS
