Training Programme on GIS Policy & Law
28 January 2003
There is a considerable level of ambiguity in India as far as GIS policy is concerned in India. There is no clear policy directions, let it be regarding the availability and accessibility of geographic data both in paper or digital form. Which map can be digitised and that too by whom, there are no easy and direct answers. The situation leads to confusion regarding the creation and application of maps especially by private sector. The proposed workshop will deal with the present policy scenario regarding spatial data and GIS of India and will also assess them vis-à-vis other countries such as USA, Australia, UK and some other European countries, etc. The workshop will also discuss the present National Spatial Data Infrastructure initiatives and its implications.
