Kapil Sibal is currently the honourable Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Department of Ocean Development. Mr Sibal, an advocate by profession, is a reputed and popular minister of the ruling party and has held various crucial positions before taking up this independent charge. He was the Additional Solicitor General of India between Dec.1989 - Dec.1990. He had been also a member of Rajya Sabha (Upper House of the parliament of India). From 2000 till 2002 he was the secretary of the Congress Parliamentary Party. In 2002, he also became the Member of the Committee on Home Affairs. In 2004 he got elected to 14th Lok Sabha of the Parliament of India.
Mr Kapil Sibal has been a key person behind leveraging the cause of the geospatial industry and has been instrumental in formulating the New National Map Policy of 2005.
